Creating mandatory profiles

Updating the Mandatory Profile

Last Updated 2/8/2005
1) Login as the user "administrator".
2) Go to Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Computer Management/Local Users and Groups/Users. Right-click the user "public" and choose Properties. Click the "Member of" tab, click the "add" button, and add the user to the group "administrators". Click Apply, then OK.
3) Go to Control Panel/Folder Options. Click the "View" tab. Check the "Show hidden files and folders" radio button. Uncheck the "Hide Extensions for known file types" box. Uncheck the "Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)" box. Click "Yes", then "Apply", then "OK".
4) Browse to "C:\Documents and Settings\Mandatory User Profile" . Rename ntuser.man to ntuser.dat.
5) Restart the PC and let it autologin as public.
6) Make whatever changes are necessary to the public profile. Install apps, printers, or whatever.
7) Log off and login as the user "administrator".
8) Browse to C:\Documents and Settings\public. Rename ntuser.dat to ntuser.man.
9) Go to Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Computer Management/Local Users and Groups/Users. Right-click the user "public" and choose Properties. Click the "Member of" tab. Highlight the "Administrators" group and click the "remove" button. Click Apply, then OK.
10) Restart the PC and let it login as the user "public".
11) Test the changes made to the profile.
